Directions

The easiest way to reach Frescati is to take the Tunnelbana, which is Stockholm’s metro system. The university is located at the station 'Universitetet', which is on the red line, North of the city centre.

The journey time from the central station, T-Centralen, is 10-15 minutes. There are two branches of the red line heading North. You should take the train with the final destination: Mörby Centrum. Several bus routes also serve the university campus: 50, 70, 540 and 670 ('Universitetet norra' for the main campus). Tickets must be bought before travel. Tickets for public transport can be bought from newsagents as well as from SL (Stockholms lokaltrafik) ticket offices. See below (‘Stockholm public transport’ for further information on ticket options).

The conference will take place in the light blue buildings ‘Södra husen’, a few minutes walk from the subway entrance.

Airports

Arlanda airport is the largest airport in the Stockholm area and is easy to access from most of European and international centers. It is located 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Stockholm City. For more information see: http://www.swedavia.com/arlanda/

Other alternatives are:

Bromma Airport which is located closer to the city but fewer flights arrive at this airport. Travel time by bus is 20 minutes. More information can be found at: http://www.swedavia.com/bromma/

Skavsta airport lies a bit further away from Stockholm city, approximately 1.5 hours by bus. However, Skavsta is only accessible from Europe. For more information, see: http://www.skavsta.se/en/

From all the airports listed above you can easily reach Stockholm city center with the airport buses named Flygbussarna (Airport Coaches) (http://www.flygbussarna.se/en) which depart every 10-15 minutes from all airports to the City Terminal (located next to the Central Station). Travel time from Arlanda 35-45 minutes and from Bromma 20 minutes. The price is 99 SEK. From Skavsta it takes 1.5 hours and costs 139 SEK.

The Arlanda express train is a nice and quick way (only 20 min) to travel from Arlanda to Stockholm Central Station. The train departures every 15 minutes for most of the day (https://www.arlandaexpress.com/fares.aspx). The price is 280 SEK but early bird (and student) discounts are available.

Getting around by taxi

We recommend you to use one of the major companies such as Taxi Stockholm, Taxi Kurir, or Taxi 020 as small operators sometimes charge very high prices (and are allowed to do so since the taxi business in Sweden is unregulated).

Please note that many minor companies use signs that are very similar to those of the larger companies. Therefore, it can be a good idea to always check that the name and the telephone number correspond to the ones listed below. All the major taxi companies accept credit cards and you could ask for fixed prices (advisable if you arrive during rush hour).

Taxi Stockholm +46 (0)8- 150000                     http://www.taxistockholm.se/en/

Taxi Kurir +46 (0)8- 30 00 00                            http://www.taxikurir.se/stockholm

Taxi 020 +46 (0)20- 20 20 20                             http://www.taxi020.se/in-english/

These taxi services are all available at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Bromma Airport. Travel time: Stockholm Arlanda Airport: approx 40 minutes. Bromma Airport: approx 15 minutes.

Stockholm public transport

The Stockholm public transport system uses three types of tickets: single-tickets, single use cards and an SL Access travel card. All of them will give you access to any type of public transportation, and allows transfers between different lines and types of transportation (metro, bus, the light rail systems and the Slussen-Djurgården ferry). Available durations are:

  • Single ticket within zone A is valid for 1 hour and fifteen minutes – 36 SEK
  • 24 hours – 115 SEK
  • 72 hours – 230 SEK
  • 7 days – 300 SEK

See http://sl.se/en/fares--tickets/. If you choose to buy the SL Access card there is a card fee of 20 SEK but you can re-use the card at future visits in Stockholm. Tickets are sold at the SL Centers located at for example the Central Station and in many news agents such as “Pressbyrån”. These agents usually have the SL logo visibly displayed (see homepage). Some tickets can also be bought at the underground barriers.

NOTE: You can NOT purchase any tickets onboard the buses and Stockholm has a very high penalty fare (1,200 SEK).
