Entry requirements

Since 1 July 2007 the general entry requirements for education at doctoral student level are defined as:

  • a degree at the second level (Master) or
  • at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits at the second level (Master´s level).

For admission to doctoral studies in Sociological Demography the entry requirements also specify:

  • Demography courses equivalent to the so-called Demography block (22.5 credits)
  • One theory and one methods course at the second level
  • A Master´s thesis of at least 15 credits (can be included in the 60 credits in the general requirements)
  • Proficiency in English

Application

Admission to education at doctoral level at the Department of Sociology is limited and announcements will be issued as available resources so permit.

  • Announcements for available positions as doctoral student starting in the autumn term will be published in early February with applications due by 1 March. When there are PhD positions open for applications open, you can find them here.
  • Announcements for available positions as doctoral student starting in the spring term will be published in early September with applications due by 1 October. This application round is used solely for doctoral student positions within research projects. When there are PhD positions open for applications open, you can find them here.

Selection procedure

The selection among the applicants is carried out by an admissions panel appointed by the department. The panel surveys the qualifications of the applicants and selects among them possible candidates for further discussion. The purpose of this discussion is to explore how well competence and interests match between the department and the applicant.

Financing

Financial support shall be organized and settled for the entire study period upon admission. The main source of financial support is by doctoral studentships.
