How population development in Sweden would have been without the war in Syria

What would Sweden’s population development have been like if it wasn’t for the uprising against Assad and the following war in Syria? A new study in demography published in the academic journal PLOS ONE has the answer. In the study, the authors have created and calculated hypothetical scenarios to determine the demographic development in Sweden and Norway – without the immigration following the Syrian war.

Her undergraduate thesis in English literature in the US was passed with honors, but got the comment “this belongs in the Sociology department”. Some years later, Vanessa Barker is indeed a Professor of Sociology at Stockholm University. Part of bringing her to Stockholm was her interest in how Swedish society was rapidly transforming.

Information about teaching and examination during the Covid-19-pandemic

All teaching at undergraduate level including exams at the Department of Sociology will be online via Zoom until March 22nd 2021. On the advanced level, teachers can decide whether they prefer to teach via Zoom only or use a hybrid model.
