The course is divided into two parts. The first part addresses the general questions that all qualitative research projects have to deal with: basic assumptions, theory, method, analysis, empirical material and presentation of material. This part serves as the foundation for the second part of the course, in which students are allowed to specialize and expand their knowledge on specific issues. Students are expected to specialize on methodological topics that are useful for ongoing or planned research projects. This second part stresses the importance of practice, and the student may, for example, conduct a specific kind of interview, go deeper into the practice of coding or investigate how to use or analyze visual material. A paper must be written on this practical project. Each student is also expected to write a report based on a comparison of two qualitative research monographs.
